Frequently Asked Questions

Licensing, installation, software requirements, upgrades and more

Download eaTeamWorks and install it on your computer.

The software includes the products:

  • eaDocX and Revision Manager
  • eaSheets
  • Model Expert
  • Portfolio Manager*

Each product has it’s own independent 30-day trial included in the software. When you select a product feature, you will be asked if you want to start your free trial of that product. This will allow you to use all the features of that product for 30 days.

Trials of other products in the software will not be started until you select one of their features. In each case you will be asked if you want to start the free 30-day trial.

Note that some eaTeamWorks features are free for life so will not trigger a trial message.

When each 30 day trial period finishes, you will need to buy a product licence key to continue using those features.

* The downloads page also includes sample EA models which contain various Portfolio Manager projects set up and at different stages of their project lifecycle. Use these to help you experience modeling with Portfolio Manager.

New License or Renewal

A new license entitles the purchaser to:

  • One or more license keys that enable the correct functionality set for the purchased product or products
  • A 12 month ‘subscription’ that entitles the user to:
    • priority email support and
    • access to new releases of software for download

When you buy a renewal you are ‘buying again’ and a new licence key is delivered.

Each key is valid until the end of the month in which it is purchased, to help avoid loss of function between renewals.

Upgrade

An upgrade purchase provides the user with a new license key for more users or additional eaTeamWorks products.

Additional eaTeamWorks products can be bought at any time. A new key will be delivered which can be added to your eaTeamWorks account and application. The key will work alongside your existing key(s) The expiry date of each different product key is stand-alone but can be co-termed if required –  Contact Us to request.

For an upgrade to additional users, the key will replace your existing key, which will be disabled.

All aTeamWorks Licenses, whether for individual products or for the whole eaTeamWorks Suite, are either suitable for Single Users or for Groups.

Standard License keys are valid for a single user, installed on a single computer. A license may be transferred to another user if, as stated in the terms of the eaTeamWorks License Agreement, you tell support@eateamworks.com that it has been re-assigned. That way, we can provide support to that new user. You may not sell-on any eaTeamWorks license, or copy the license code, other than for backup purposes.

Group License keys allow a pool of users to share a license between them, up to a maximum number (up to 10, up to 30, or unlimited users). Choose the size based on the total number of EA users in your team who will be using the software.

The eaTeamWorks equivalent to floating licenses is a Group license. To share a license between several users, you should buy a Group license. Group licenses are available for all eaTeamWorks products.

Choose from one of three sizes:

  • up to 10 users (Small Teams)
  • up to 30 users (Growing Teams)
  • unlimited users (Enterprise)

Desktop installations

For organizations running EA as a desktop application, group licenses provide flexibility and ease of use for distributed teams and team members.

Flexible

Having flexibility in the number of users who can share the software reduces your need to precisely forecast how your organization will use eaTeamWorks. A Group license accommodates changing patterns of use.

For example, if you are rolling out the software and are unsure of how quickly you will get to full deployment or if there is a company reorganization and an unexpected change in team size or use happens, a Group License can flex with your needs.

Simple to manage

Group Licenses are not dependent on a shared server to manage licenses, making it simpler for IT support teams to implement.

Your eaTeamWorks Group license works independent of network changes and supports staff who may work both on-site and remotely.

There is no need to manage a register of keys.

Easy to Use

No need to be connected to the company network. No need to wait for a license to become available. Users just load eaTeamWorks onto each machine, enter a single key, and start work.

eaTeamWorks in the Cloud

eaTeamWorks group licenses are the best solution for Enterprise Architect cloud hosted environments. For example, See eaDocX in the cloud for more information.

All downloads are available to logged in users at: https://www.eateamworks.com/learn/downloads/

Access to files is controlled by your profile and the license keys registered to your account.

If you think there is an error with your account or key, please Contact Us.

The eaTeamWorks release available for download, which includes eaDocX and Revision Manager, eaSheets, Model Expert and Portfolio Manager, is always at the latest version. We don’t make back versions available so please take your own back-ups.

Development of the features of eaTeamWorks is continuous. As we use it more, so we discover new things that we want it to do, as well as finding things that we could do better. You can help us by sending suggestions through the Feature request form.

N.B. Bug fixes and new features are always included in the current code version only. We do not fix or provide downloads of legacy versions of eaDocX.

Operating System

Windows 10 & 11. Will probably work on older versions of Windows, but we no longer test for this.

Virtual Environments

We do not test eaTeamWorks in any virtual environments e.g. VMWare, Citrix:  there are too many of them, and too many combinations of OS, environment, EA version and eaTeamWorks version. This is why we have 30-day trials!

However, we do have many customers using eaTeamWorks successfully in virtual environments. And we do our best to help you get it working.

eaTeamWorks also works fine in our Sparx in the Cloud environment. See eaDocX in the Cloud for a demonstration of one eaTeamWorks feature.

Microsoft .NET Framework

4.8+

Microsoft Office (for eaDocX users only)

Word and Excel  2013+ .

Office 365/Microsoft 365: Business Standard, Business Premium and Apps for Business

Note: eaDocX will NOT work with Word 2010/2013 where Word is used in the  Click-2-Run style or Office 365 (Personal, Family or Business Basic editions), as this only downloads parts of the Word application, and not the parts which eaDocX uses. eaDocX works fine with fully-installed 2010 and 2013.

BUT 32-bit Office 2013 only. We are still investigating why 64-bit Office 2013 doesn’t work

From Excel 2013/2016 onwards, owing to a Microsoft change, eaXL does not open inside EA but in an external window. However, all eaDocX features work fine. We are waiting for the Microsoft fix…

(* however, some Office 365 customers have found that installing Visio makes eaDocX work!)

Enterprise Architect

Our software was originally designed on EA v8, but we generally test only on the current and sometimes the previous EA version. Right now, that means EA 16.1

Users with EA v14 or newer releases require eaDocX v4.0 or later.

Note that eaTeamWorks, in common with all other EA extensions, will not work with eaLite after eaLite V10 (i.e. v11 and above) due to a deliberate change in EA.

Databases supported

  • EAP
  • QEA / QEAX
  • We test with Oracle, SQLServer and MySQL.
  • We know of issues with MySQL when it is running on a LINUX server, so DO NOT recommend this configuration
  • PostgreSQL also has issues, due to inconsistencies in the EA/SQL interface, so also do not recommend this

Mac Crossover

Some users try to use eaTeamWorks in a Windows machine running on a Mac. Sometime this works, sometimes it doesn’t. We don’t have a test environment to test this, so if you need help please feel free to aska question on the forum, but don’t expect too many answers. Sorry.

Firstly, you don’t need to re-install eaTeamWorks: EA takes care of that.

BUT…

You will need to re-enter the eaTeamworks Licence key. This is because your application settings, such as your licence key code, are stored by EA, but in a file which changes as you change EA versions. So, when you upgrade EA, ALL your eaTeamWorks application settings are lost.

We’re sorry about this, but we just don’t have any way of going back and getting the settings from an old version of EA.

So you’ll need to re-enter your eaTeamWorks licence key code in the Specialize | eaeaTeamWorks | Licence Information dialogue screen.

(P.S. You can find your eaTeamWorks keys by logging in and selecting Licences).

We want to make it as easy as possible for you to get access to all the information you need without registration.

At the start of the month that your subscription is set to expire you will receive a renewal notification email including renewal purchase links. This email will be sent to the email address we have on record, by default this is the email address that was used to place the order.

Please contact the eaTeamWorks Sales Team if you would like to update your email address.

If you would like to renew earlier than the expiration month, you will need to purchase directly through us as online renewals automatically begin from the date of purchase and you may lose subscription time. eaDocX is the Word document generation add-in for Sparx EA, making it fast and easy to produce high quality documents from your EA models. We designed eaDocX for EA users who want to create accurate, readable Word documents from their EA models, and that’s what we deliver – providing all the familiar features and formatting options of Microsoft Word to EA users.

If you just need to produce high quality Word documents tailored to a demanding audience, with no online reviews, no versioning, and don’t need to work with Excel then eaDocX may be sufficient for you. However, if you need more, there’s…

ea Revision Manager is the eaDocX extension that includes document versioning and lets you make updates to your EA model directly from your documents. It combines the feedback from one or many reviewers and documents and lets modelers easily make the agreed model changes.

Note: ea Revision Manager is an extension for eaDocX. It will not work as a stand-alone product.

Equivalent Licences with eaTeamWorks

eaDocX Professional edition becomes eaDocX

eaDocX Corporate edition becomes eaDocX + eaSheets

eaDocX Collaboration edition becomes eaDocX + eaSheets + ea Revision Manager

The new eaTeamWorks eaDocX licences offer customers even more than before. They include all MSWord document generation functions available in the Professional edition, plus scripting and html publishing, which were previously only available in Corporate and Collaboration edition licenses (up to version 5.x.x.x.). The new eaDocX also includes improved document templates which can be saved and shared.

ea Revision Manager features were previously included in eaDocX Collaboration edition. They are now available in a separate extension to eaDocX, delivering document management functions for version control, plus simple, fast updates from document stakeholder feedback and revisions directly back into your EA model. (Document versioning was also included in eaDocX Corporate edition).

eaSheets is now available as its own tool. This replicates the eaXL spreadsheet integration that was previously included in eaDocX Corporate and Collaboration editions. eaSheets also includes new “Smart Tags” and spreadsheet template features.

eaDocX Professional and Corporate editions were available as Floating licences. However support for these licence types cannot now be renewed.

New eaDocX licences are available as Annual Single user and Group licences only. See the Group licence information above for more details.

To replace your Floating licence you have two options:

  1. Swap your floating licences for 3x the number of fixed (single-user) licences. So, if you bought a 10-user floating licence, we’ll swap that for 30 separate single-user licences, valid for 12 months.
  2. Swap to a Group Licence. As per the example above, a 10-user floating licence would be replaced by an ‘up to 30’ user Group licence, valid for 12 months.

eaDocX can format all legal Unicode characters – so we believe it supports all languages using these characters.

It has been extensively tested with English EA models and documents (our native language), and has successfully produced documents in French, Dutch, Belgian, German and Spanish, Polish and Czech.  Other languages are still awaiting confirmation.

Please tell us about your experience using eaDocX to produce documents in your own language.

Yes, because eaDocX opens Word inside EA, and creates fully functional Word documents, you need a Microsoft Office licence as well as an eaDocX licence to generate eaDocX documents from EA.

See “What are the System Requirements” for the licence versions that support eaDocX as not all Microsoft licences are compatible.

No, you do not need Excel to use eaSheets with Enterprise Architect.

eaSheets opens a stand-alone spreadsheet inside EA, to let you export, edit, import and perform other spreadsheet functions on your data.

But you can export or save eaSheets content into Excel or csv formats.

Portfolio Manager works by giving warnings to modelers to stop them from accidentally getting in each other’s way. e.g. if they are working on different projects in the same model, trying to make changes to the same elements, working on out of date information, etc.

To provide these warnings, all the modelers working in the same model need to be using Portfolio Manager. So a single licence being used by just one modeler will not be of any use – the full benefits can only be realised if all modelers in a shared model are using Portfolio Manager.
